Sridhama Mayapur
Today and in the future

The purpose of the Sri Mayapur Project is to manifest the spiritual potential of the holy abode of Lord Caitanya in a form most conducive to the spiritual advancement of the people of this planet.

It is designed as the cynosure of the preaching mission of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who declared that a magnificent temple in Mayapur would become the beacon for spreading Krishna Consciousness throughout the world.

Everyone who visits this holy dhama gains spiritual advancement. Therefore ISKCON is creating this majestic temple with many wonderful exhibitions and features in order to attract the whole world to Mayapur.

To accommodate the many people who will come from far distances, ISKCON has already provided four guesthouses of differing cost and standards and has planned dozens more, as well as dharma-shallas to house the poorer pilgrims.

A variety of restaurants will prepare prasadam in styles indigenous to different parts of India and the world. Prasadam will also be available in a medium price range for the masses. ISKCON's Food For Life will distribute free food to the poor, and everyone who comes to the temple will be offered free prasadam before leaving.

Since the Mayapur Project is meant to bring people to a higher spiritual consciousness, ISKCON will provide diverse programs to educate and enliven the visitors. Some of these programs are as follows:

Chanting the Holy Name of the Lord

Twenty-four hours a day, the chanting of the name of God will be heard. All people will be invited to join this chanting for their eternal spiritual benefit.

Hearing the Philosophy of Lord Caitanya

There will be classes in the morning and evening in the temple. There will also be preaching pavilions where people may attend during the day. Question and Answer booths will provide information for the inquisitive. Individual preachers will be available for personal consultation.

Reading of the Books of Srila Prabhupada

There will be book tables and roving devotees distributing the books of Srila Prabhupada to those fortunate souls who wish to take them. People who become Life Members will automatically receive these books.

Observing the Deity Forms of the Lord

The layout of the town itself directs visitors to enter the temple and take darshan of the Lord. They may then attend the ceremonies in the temple and chant with the devotees.

Visiting the Planetarium and Science Exhibits

Participants in these exhibits will be presented with the Vedic conception of the universe and observe its relevance to today's scientific conceptions. Explanations aimed toward the scientist and the intelligent viewer will so strongly challenge contemporary ideas that even the most skeptical will have to admit the merit of the Vedic conception.

Viewing the Exhibits Within the Four Dhamas Halls

Participants will be taken on a tour of the universe and beyond, to the spiritual world. There they will see the relative situations of the material and spiritual worlds and the activities in both. They will have the chance to appreciate the Vedic teachings manifested in attractive, three-dimensional forms.

Attending the Theme Parks Around the Temple and in the Town

Here participants will enter spiritual worlds and interact with famous spiritual personalities. This will be particularly attractive to families with children.

Permanent Institutions of Learning

Presently there are two gurukula schools in Mayapur. These schools will expand to educate the permanent residents of Mayapur as well as qualified students from outside the area. A planned Vaishnava University will provide higher education for those wishing to devote their lives to serving the Lord with their intelligence.

Seminars and Training

Periodic seminars in the style of the Vaishnava Institute for Higher Education will give people a chance to learn from visiting sannyasis and preachers from around the world, who will speak on different subjects. Training sessions on preaching, organization, management, and other skills will give the worldwide ISKCON community needed instruction from experienced devotees.

Research, Writing, and Publication

Mayapur is a center for research, writing, and publication. Future facilities will provide for qualified authors to reside in Mayapur, research in the University library, and write on important topics for the Vaishnava community. These writings will be printed by the resident BBT press, which will be responsible for distributing them throughout the ISKCON world and beyond.

These are only some of the many features of the envisioned spiritual town in Mayapur.
