The Pushpa-Samadhi


Srila Prabhupada's Pushpa Samadhi The Pushpa Samadhi Mandir of Srila Prabhupada (the flower garland memorial of the Founder-Acarya of ISKCON) was opened in March 1995. The building is about 60 meters high (more than 180 feet) and is a unique mixture of Italian and traditional Bengali architecture. The main dome is 22 meters (70 feet) in diameter, externally covered by marble and topped by a gold-covered kalash (tower). Eight statues depicting the inhabitants of the higher planetary systems stand high above the ground, ringing the dome. Inside the dome are eight mosaic murals displaying the pastimes of Srila Prabhupada. The altar where Srila Prabhupada's life-size form sits is constructed of carved and inlaid marble with exquisite woodwork.

On the second floor mezzanine a diorama museum depicts the history of Prabhupada's struggle to establish ISKCON in the Western world. Each diorama is explained in English, Bengali, and Hindi, using digitally prerecorded soundtracks. Elaborate, brightly-lit colored fountains cool the generally hot atmosphere of Mayapur.

The building took 13 years to complete. Thousands of visitors come each day to pay their respects to Srila Prabhupada.
