In the mid-sixties, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, on the order of his spiritual preceptor, went to the Western world to preach the philosophy of the ancient Vedic spiritual tradition.

Although in his 70's, Srila Prabhupada circled the globe 12 times within 10 years, teaching the Vedic science of self-realization to the misguided, modern society. To fulfill his mission he established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

As a result of Srila Prabhupada's endeavor, hundreds of thousands of Westerners, as well as Indians, worship the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna. Many of them are congregational members of ISKCON and follow the timeless practice of Krishna consciousness at home with their families.

Art plays an important role in the ancient Vedic culture. In ISKCON centers worldwide, devotees practice transcendental loving service to Lord Krishna through drama, dance, art, sculpture and music.

The most exciting project in the history of ISKCON is the development of the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium in Sridhama Mayapur, 135 km to the north of Calcutta, India. The Mayapur Project is already extraordinary, and after the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium is built, it will be unique in Asia, one of the biggest religious monuments in the world.

In 1996, the 1896-1996 Srila Prabhupada Centennial will be celebrated all over the world to commemorate the appearance of Srila Prabhupada one century ago.

Srila Prabhupada gave the world the original knowledge of how to reestablish oneself in one's eternal relationship with the Supreme Lord, Krishna, through the execution of pure devotional service and chanting of the holy names of the Lord. The sublime method that puts us on the path back home, back to Godhead.
